about us

Hobson Heating and Cooling in Fenton, Michigan was founded by Dan Hobson. Dan worked in the HVAC industry as a young man and enjoyed the work, but moved into construction.

Many years later while Dan was out of town he had to call a furnace company to repair his furnace. After receiving a big quote to repair his furnace he decided to wait and fix it himself.

While making the repairs he reflected on how much he enjoyed the HVAC field and decided to open his own business. Dan made it a priority to focus on offering honest work at a fair price the average family can afford.

Now, more than a decade later the business has grown and Dan's sons Drew and Sawyer have joined the family company. Today their vans can be seen in and around the area serving hundreds of their neighbors in Fenton, Grand Blanc, Holly, Linden and the surrounding areas.

If you see one of their vans, give them a wave or stop and say hello. And be sure to ask Dan about his first grandchild - he's very proud.

Frequently asked questions

  • What areas does Hobson Heating and Cooling serve?
Hobson Heating and Cooling is in Fenton, Michigan. Our 3 technicians primarily serve the Fenton, Grand Blanc, Holly, and Linden areas. However we regularly serve homeowners throughout all of Genesee, Oakland and Livingston counties.
  • What are your hours? Do you work weekends?
Our normal business hours - and hourly rates - are 7am till 8pm Monday thru Friday. However, we are still available for emergency calls after hours or on weekends.
  • My furnace quit during the night. Can you help me?
We understand what it's like to not have heat overnight. We've even delivered temporary portable heaters. We'll do everything we can to help. However, it pays to be proactive by scheduling a yearly maintenance service call for your furnace. While a yearly inspection can't guarantee you won't have an emergency, it can improve both your furnace's efficiency, safety, and we can often find and fix problems before they occur.
  • How much will it cost to fix my furnace or air conditioner?
The cost to repair a furnace or air conditioner can vary depending on the extent of the damage, the type of repair needed, the cost of replacement parts, and the make and model of your HVAC system On average, a furnace repair can cost anywhere from $100 to $1,000, with the average being around $300 to $500. However, if your furnace needs major repairs or replacement parts, the cost could be much higher. For air conditioner repairs, the cost can also vary depending on the extent of the repair needed, but typically range from $100 to $500, with the average being around $300 to $400. Again, it's important to keep in mind that these are just estimates and the actual cost of the repair may be higher or lower depending on the specific details of your system and the required repairs. That's why it's best to contact us to provide you with an accurate estimate for the repair. Sometimes we can quote an estimate over the phone, and sometimes we will need to see the furnace or air conditioner first for an accurate quote.
  • Do you guarantee your work?
Yes - we provide a guarantee with all our work. This is especially important if a new part fails - we will replace it at no additional cost to you for the length of the replaced part's warranty. However, if a different part fails later, it cannot be covered under the warranty. We'll be happy to take the time to show you the different parts, and the additional work that has to be done. In our experience, older units require more frequent repairs. At some point, it may be cost-effective to replace your furnace or A/C.
  • I just got a new Smart thermostat. Can you install it?
Smart thermostats like the Nest brand are a great way to lower your heating and cooling bills. However, some older furnaces and air conditioners don't have the necessary wiring to make them work. We'll not only install your new smart thermostat, but can run additional wires between the units to give you all the functions your new thermostat has.
